Congratulatory Message by

Dr. Cheung Nim Kwan, Chief Executive Officer,
Hong Kong Applied Science & Technology Research Institute (ASTRI)

It gives me great pleasure to extend my best wishes to the Hong Kong Linux Industry Association on its Study Mission to South Korea.

Over the last two decades, South Korea has achieved an enviable record of growth despite all the economical and political turbulences that swept across the global communities. Among the major factors that put the country on the map is its thriving innovation and technology industry. Its R&D to GDP ratio has increased substantially from 2.4 per cent in 2001 to around 3.5 per cent in recent years, with the business sector sharing 75 per cent of the country¡¦s R&D expenditure. Visionary investments in R&D by the Korean Government, entrepreneurs and investors have contributed to the economic success of the country on the global stage in the new millennium.

I believe that this Study Mission will not only be a special occasion for the delegation to explore business opportunities and collaboration with their Korean counterparts, but also an invaluable experience that will refresh their perspectives and broaden their professional horizons . As the designated R&D Centre for Information and Communications Technologies in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute would welcome the opportunities of further exploring any novel ideas that the delegation may be inspired during the tour on enhancing the technological strength of Hong Kong.

On behalf of ASTRI, I wish the Study Mission a most fruitful and rewarding visit .
